Using CBD Oil for Seizures

Using CBD oil for seizures has become an effective way to deal with this ailment. For years, researchers have been diligently working to find a treatment for those who suffer from seizures.

Current treatments for seizures range anywhere from prescription drugs with a laundry list of side effects to brain surgery that removes a part of the brain. Seizures are a serious medical condition and many patients choose to live with the side effects or risk surgery in order to have some sense of normalcy.

However, research suggests that CBD, short for cannabidiol, may be a natural treatment for seizures with virtually no negative side effects.

How CBD Oil Works

CBD is a cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant that is not responsible for the intoxicated feeling that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is known for.

CBD is able to influence a complex internal system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in order to produce a variety of health effects. Studies have shown that CBD is potentially able to aid in:

  • Insomnia
  • Mood
  • Inflammation and other immune functions
  • Chronic Pain
  • Neurological function

Many of our clients report that adding a CBD oil to their daily routine has had a profound effect on their overall wellbeing. It was only a matter of time before researchers began to take CBD seriously as a potential medical breakthrough.

Evidence Supporting CBD Oil for Seizures

New research seems to roll in every day in support of CBD as a treatment for epilepsy and other neurological conditions.

One 2017 study, treated 120 children and young adults suffering from Dravet Syndrome, a rare drug-resistant type of epilepsy, with CBD oral solution over a 14 week period with astonishing results. On average, patients went from about 14 seizures a month to about 6 seizures. 5% of the patients even became seizure-free.

Another 2018 study tested 250 epileptic patients ranging in age from 2-55 for a 14 week trial period with an equally impressive outcome. When the study started, each patient had at least 2 drop down seizures a week. At the conclusion of the study, the number of seizures patients experienced went down by an average of 42% – that’s nearly half.

CBD Oil for seizures has proven to be an effective method to deal with seizures.

How to Get a Prescription

While CBD is federally legal, laws are murky and vary from state to state. Be sure to check your local listings.

If you live somewhere where medical marijuana is legal, getting a prescription is fairly painless.

You can choose to visit a doctor in person or some states allow you to talk to a doctor over the internet using a video chat service, like Skype or Zoom. Inform the doctor of your medical conditions that you think qualify you to use cannabis as a medicine. If you’re approved the doctor will often guide you to products that may be right for you.

Some states have more strict regulations than others so be sure to follow your local laws and consult your doctor!

As medical research into CBD advances, health professionals are beginning to take notice. In June of 2018, Epidolex became the first-ever FDA approved CBD prescription drug. While it is only approved for 2 types of rare child on-set types of epilepsy that are considered to be catastrophic, it’s a huge signal to the medical world that CBD is no joking matter.
